…"I used to get chronically hoarse," says Knight. "Mr. (Maurice) King said you have to make sure to find a range. This is a tip for kids — find your range, OK? If your top note is a B flat, you can hit B flat all night in your natural voice but once you start going up to that C and that D above your natural range, you will eventually get hoarse.
"So many people sing outside their range. You take Mariah (Carey), she has a great range, but she stays hoarse all the time. Now that could be from a lot of things, I don’t know what her social life is, but you have to take care of that."…
