Universal Music Group Chief Executive Doug Morris said on Tuesday the world’s largest music company will post its best ever revenue and profit in 2007 thanks to new releases from its top-selling artists.

Morris said Universal and other music companies are also starting to see new revenue streams from digital sources, including Apple’s iTunes online music service and iPod digital media player, and mobile phone ringtones.

"I think that next year we’re going to have our best year," he said at the Reuters Media Summit in New York. "I think our revenues and our profits will be the best we’ve ever had."

Morris said Universal Music, owned by French media giant Vivendi (VIV.PA: Quote, Profile, Research), will benefit hugely from new albums from Eminem, 50 Cent and two albums from Mariah Carey.

"You can see there are myriad streams of income starting to come into the record companies," said Morris. "We’re going to make money from MySpace, we’re going to make money from YouTube, we’re going to make money from Zune…we will make tremendous amount of money from telephones."

Lee Daniels is gearing up to begin production on "Tennessee," which stars Mariah Carey. He says Carey, widely dissed for her work in "Glitter," is "a survivor" who is going to prove her critics wrong.
"The studios don’t believe in her," says Daniels, who is producing the film. "They think I’m crazy for hiring her, but people said the same thing when I hired Halle Berry." Berry won an Academy Award for her role in "Monster’s Ball," the first film Daniels produced.

Los Angeles (October 19, 2006) - - The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Los Angeles will host its 7th annual Wish Night Awards Gala at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Friday, November 17, 2006. The evening will begin with a pre-event cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by a dinner and awards reception at 7:30 p.m. The star-studded event will honor celebrities and companies who have supported the organization’s mission to brighten the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions in Los Angeles County by fulfilling their one most heartfelt wish.

The honorees for Wish Night 2006 are: performer, songwriter, and the top-selling female artist in history, Mariah Carey, who will receive the inaugural Wish Icon Award; acclaimed producer, director and actress Penny Marshall, and Emmy Award®-winning actor Eric McCormack, who will each receive the Celebrity Wish Granter Award; Paul Rusnak of RUSNAK Auto Group who will receive the Individual Wish Granter Award; and RTKL Associates, Inc. and Turner Construction Company, which will each receive the Corporate Wish Granter Award. Musician, singer and songwriter Jake Coco will provide entertainment for the evening.

Wish recipients and their families will present each award and share how their lives have been impacted by a wish, such as nine-year-old Ryan’s wish to be a zookeeper at the National Zoo after surviving a severe congenital defect.

We are delighted to have the opportunity to recognize such prominent members of our community for their involvement in supporting wish fulfillment for children and their families. It is particularly exciting to honor Mariah Carey with the Wish Icon award for her extraordinary generosity and her many wish granting achievements throughout her career, said Kelli Seely, president and CEO of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Los Angeles. Together, those we are honoring tonight have brightened the lives of many children and the family members who love them.

In addition to her multi-award winning career as a performer and songwriter, Carey has also been a committed volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She has personally granted dozens of wishes for children from across the country. Many children have taken Carey’s place at music awards shows, thanks to her generosity. Carey also donates to help grant performing arts/music wishes; she has donated in the six figures to fund more than 20 wishes. The pop legend was also willing to take the stage for the Foundation when it celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Over the past six years, Wish Night has been responsible for the fulfillment of hundreds of wishes. Past Wish Night celebrity honorees have included: Halle Barry, Brad Garrett, Nick Lachey, David Foster and Luc Robitaille. In 2005, Wish Night guests contributed $116,000 in just 20 minutes through the chapter§s unique wish-sponsorship live auction entitled Fund-A-Wish.

Chart Flashback

Using the top 10 singles from Billboard’s Hot 100 chart for the week ending October 27, 1990, Whitney Pastorek of Entertainment Weekly reviewed 16-year-old songs and how they hold up today. Mariah’s "Love Takes Time" is among those evaluated in the new commentary feature.

5. ‘’Love Takes Time,'’ Mariah Carey Oh, hello, it’s my most favorite Mariah Carey song of all time! Okay, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but really — I’m pretty sure she nailed this one. And to everyone out there who’s gotten so upset at me time and time again for not giving this woman her props, listen up, ‘cause I’m not going to repeat myself: With its combo of soft trills and a bridge powerful enough to hold up most of New Jersey, ‘’Love Takes Time'’ strikes the perfect balance of all the things that make Ms. Carey one of the greatest vocalists of this or any other century. If she’s going to be on every single chart of every single week of the ’90s, at least there are songs like this to make it bearable. So can we all just get along now? A
